Rejection #1

I got an email last night - Apple has rejected BeerAlchemy Touch. They're not happy about an icon I'm using (not that they told me exactly which one it was so I'm taking a guess). Not a disaster but annoying and it will, of course, delay the release of the app.

That's a bit sad. Yet another item to add to the list of things which are non-optimal about the App Store approval process.
But it's nice to be getting close. Do you think it means they approve everything else? Any guess on which icon may be flagged?

Hi Alexandre,

Firstly sorry, I seem to have deleted your other comment by mistake. What you said was..

"Didn't know about the viewer app. Excellent idea. Sometimes, we just need to have the recipe handy. The brewery is one case (especially after brewday) but it's also useful when people ask about the specifics of a beer.
Still, if the BA Touch app is decently priced, it's a better idea to simply carry that. A friend showed it to me at a brewclub meeting and I'm pretty sure I want it. "

The viewer app is intended to replace functionality that iPod Touch/iPhone users lost when Apple changed the way iPods worked. As such I didn't want to charge for something that other iPod users got for free. Besides, it didn't take very long to do as it's based on the main BeerAlchemy Touch codebase with large chunks missed out by using conditional compilation.

Going back to the icon, I think it was a sync icon. They weren't clear on which one it was - I only got a screenshot from the app showing half a dozen icons. It seemed that the sync one was probably the one they were on about.

They could still reject it for something else. My understanding is that they go through it and once they find something unacceptable they stop there. It's understandable (they're very busy) but annoying as it takes them about a week before they even look at an app. The icon they didn't like is on the very first screen you see when you launch the they didn't have to look very far!

Thanks for the insight into the process. There's a fair bit of talk about some of Apple's apparently arbitrary rejections, but relatively little about the specifics of the process.
Is the app rated for 18 and over? Seems like anything which has to do with alcohol is restricted, now that Apple has age ratings.

No problem about the deleted comment. Happened to me on occasion.

Yes, it's rated as an age 17+ app due to the alcohol references.

I am getting so sick of Apple and their BS. They use to be sooooo cool and a great alternative to Microsoft but now they are no different. They should change their catch phrase from "think different" to "conform"

Bummer about the delay, but I'm very excited it's this close (I haven't checked your blog lately). I've been using BeerMath for awhile and love it and definitely plan on buying BA for my Touch!

The review process is pretty much a black box. The answer is therefore no, I don't have any more info. You know as much as I do.
